Brachioplasty, also called the arm lift, is a cosmetic procedure that enhances the aesthetics of the patient’s arms. It removes excess fat and sagging skin, making the arms more toned and contoured. At Dr. Alvina Won Cosmetic Surgery, we provide high-quality brachioplasty to Seattle patients.

Your Brachioplasty Consultation

During your arm lift consultation, you will tell Dr. Won your concerns regarding the appearance of your arms. Talk to Dr. Won about the arm lift goals you want to achieve.

The doctor will go over your complete medical records, including all past procedures and current medications. She will also examine your arms and may take photographs.

If Dr. Won determines that brachioplasty is the ideal procedure for your arms and you decide to undergo the procedure, she will create a surgical plan. A date will then be set for the arm lift surgery.

What Will an Arm Lift Surgery Do for Me?

Many women find that they can’t get their arms to have that toned and sculpted look no matter how much exercise they do, and in these types of cases a Brachioplasty, or Arm Lift, may be all that’s needed to reach the goal.

Different things can cause your upper arms to have a sagging appearance. Sometimes, it’s a hereditary condition, or it can also be caused by the normal aging process or losing weight. Unfortunately, it is a condition that exercise won’t correct. This type of procedure may be right for you if the undersides of your upper arms are sagging or appear full due to excess fat and skin.

Arm Lift - Before & After - Dr. Won
An arm lift procedure can:

  • Reduce sagging skin
  • Smooth and tighten the tissue that shapes the upper arm
  • Reduce small pockets of fat in the upper arm

The length of the incision will be determined based on the extent and location of the excess skin that is being removed. Excess pockets of fat can be removed with liposuction. The incision is usually placed either on the inside of the arm or on the backside of the arm where it will be less visible.

If minimal contouring is needed, it’s possible that the incision can be placed in the armpit area. Depending on the extent of your particular condition, it’s not always possible to get optimal results with just one surgical procedure, and a second may be needed. The results of this type of surgery are long-lasting if you maintain a stable weight and overall good general fitness. As you grow older, it is possible to lose some degree of firmness, however overall the results should be permanent.

Brachioplasty Recovery

The patient will wear compression garments during the brachioplasty healing process to minimize post-surgical swelling. Prescriptions will be given to make the recovery process more comfortable for the patient. The patient must refrain from strenuous activites and heavy lifting while healing.

Follow-up appointments may be necessary to check on recovery and assess the results of the procedure. Clearance for physical activities may in part be based on follow-up evaluations.

Are You a Candidate for Cosmetic Surgery?

Not everyone is a candidate for cosmetic surgery. If you are in the process of losing weight, it is best to wait until you have reached your goal weight before undergoing any kind of cosmetic procedure. Additionally, if you are still planning on having children, it is best to wait until you have had your child and recovered from the pregnancy. The reason for this is because weight fluctuations can affect the long-lasting benefits that are gained from having cosmetic surgery. Additionally, if you are currently a smoker, you will need to stop completely prior to undergoing any type of procedures since smoking can affect both the healing process and the results gained from a procedure. Also, it is important that you have a positive attitude and a realistic outlook about what surgery can do for you. An unhealthy lifestyle and poor overall health and fitness can wreak havoc on your appearance.

Brachioplasty Cost

The cost of the brachioplasty procedure depends on the treatment plan and goals of the patient. The techniques employed, the total time required to perform the surgery, and the amount of tissue removed may all affect total price.
